Nami Shah was raised in Kenya singing Hindustani classical at home and Western classical voice as head of choir in school. She read music at Leeds University and was part of Leeds Baroque Choir. On completion of her Masters, Nami taught Western classical voice, lectured in music and directed opera scenes at KM Music Conservatory in India.
She then completed an opera course at Associated Studios and is studying singing with Anita Morrison. In 2019 she sang in R’Otello with Gafa Arts in London and in 2021 she sang Wellgunde, 2nd Rhinemaiden in their production of Götterdämmerung. She was a mentee on the Pegasus Opera Mentorship Programme 2022. She sang the role of Iris in Ensemble Orquestra’s production of Semele in May 2024. She performed the titular operatic role of Medea in Thee Black Swan’s new production of Medea Gosperia in July 2024 at the Cockpit Theatre in London. She enjoys working in collaboration with current composers and recently performed the premier of a Farsi Art Song written by Farnoosh Behzad in October 2024 in London.
Nami enjoys singing repertoire from all over the world and was the soprano soloist with City Wind Orchestra in ‘Five Folk Songs by Bernard Gilmore’ on July 5th 2025 in London.
She often travels back to Kenya where she partakes in opera outreach work for primary schools with Baraka Opera Kenya She now lives in London and is a mum of two beautiful boys.
