Heritage

Nami feels a strong connection to her heritage and the stories from Indian folklore and mythology. She loves to find new and innovative ways to combine her Indian heritage with her western classical training.

Having learnt Hindustani classical singing from her beloved grandmother, who is still singing at age 93, Nami is inspired to create an Indian-inspired recital that reflects the bond of their relationship. This project will include bhajans (devotional songs) styled into a western- classical art song format along with other opera arias that take inspiration from India’s vast mythology.

Video of Akhian Hari Darshan Ki Pyasi – Recorded in 2023 with her grandmother. This video shows the strong bond with family that Nami values. Four generations still as close as ever despite living across three different continents. It was a song that Nami sang with her grandmother as a teenager and gave her great pleasure to record it featuring her sons as well many years later.
